about

Slip on your listening plants and root yourself to your seat; we’re going on an electrical journey through the world of my houseplants. This album was performed live by four plants that live with me, and recorded using a device called a Plantwave. Electrodes are gently attached to a plant and the electrical impulses generated by the plant are converted into MIDI information, which can be interpreted by a synthesizer. The synthesizers I’ve used are a Moog Voyager and a Roland System 8, with minimal processing and effects post-recording. The first five pieces are short excerpts from very long recordings I’ve made of three plants in my house, and the last piece is ninety-eight minutes (divided into four tracks) of a Sequoia tree growing in my front yard, before, during, and after a thunderstorm in October. The tree is three years old and about four feet tall.
